Tim with his friend Leuk and some new friends - taken Wed night

Wednesday 18th Dec - Day 19... Today is a very sad day for Tim and his family. We learned at 4.00pm Tuesday that Tim's bone marrow will not produce good cells - only bad leukemia cells - which means Tim is incurable.

It is now realised by his family the need to change their focus from cure to quality of life for the short time we have left with Tim. Doctors are unable to predict time span - it may be only days if he gets an infection - but we hope this will not happen and we will have a few weeks to enjoy with him.

Our plan is to leave hospital once Tim is well enough, probably Friday. We would like to take advantage of being in Qld in holiday mode. Thanks to our Qld social worker Linda Brown who organised with The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund two nights luxurious accommodation over Xmas at the  Hyat Regency, Coolum for the family. Our thanks also to the Sydney Chairman of the fund.

We plan to spend as long as possible in Qld and aim to get Tim back to Melb in about 2 weeks which would allow his extended family and friends to say their goodbyes. This will not be possible if Tim's health deteriorates rapidly. The important thing is our family and we must make the best of the time that is left with Tim.

We will take a break from the daily updates of the webpage - but we will still make periodic updates as we see necessary. Thank you all for the emails, good wishes, cards and gifts. We just don't have the time to reply to everyone. Please do not stay away. If you want to make contact please do and if you prefer not to, then its ok. The best way is by email - we will continue to check them.

Tonight at St Simons (Tim's school) they celebrated their Thanksgiving Mass. We would like to give thanks for the 8 years we have had with Tim and for all the support we have received

We must acknowledge our nanny Rebecca who was in tune with our needs as we confronted the emotions and tears of today. She was with us for the whole day and carried out the things that she needed to do without fuss. It must have been difficult for her too.

           ...................................................

Tim had his Xmas party today and he did have some fun. We all had a good time. Thanks to the Working Wonders volunteers and to Jill for being his escort. The following photos are of today and include some of his favorite nurses. Matthew, Jessica & Sarah were wonderful in their support and understanding. They and Tim enjoyed a game of Monopoly together late into the night. These are the family moments we will cherish. Everyone is so sad but we are strong together.

Future updates will be done on the "days with Tim" pages
