Matthew's Eulogy
Matthew's Eulogy
God put Tim on this earth for a mission. That mission was to teach everybody he met courage, bravery, hope and love. He accomplished his mission and now it is time to return to base.
Although the Leukaemia was strong, Tim was one hundred times stronger, just the medicine wasn’t strong enough. Tim won the battle, but the Chemo lost the war.
Dr Downie once said, “although a lot of people living with Leukaemia are cured, the majority of them who are not very spiritual” and I believe Tim is the top of that majority.
Tim taught us all something, but he taught me one thousand and one things. I would prefer to keep one thousand of them to myself, but I will share one with you. Even though he was only 8 years old, he showed more courage, more bravery and more acceptance than I will ever be able to show. The courage and bravery he showed was unbelievable, putting up with all those needles, all the tubes up his nose and even the fasting he had to go through. Not once did Tim complain about it. He just accepted it.
Tim had a special friend, Leuk the duck. They went everywhere and did everything together. I feel as though I formed a bond with Tim and Leuk when we went up to Queensland together with Mum for treatment. We would laugh together, play together and cry together.
There is one thing though that I will never forget about Tim. His fingers. I don’t know if any of you saw him do it. But he did it quite often before he got sick (example). Although it used to really annoy me back then, I kind of miss it now.
So, goodbye Timothy Luke Viergever. You will always be my hero. Until we met again one day in heaven, where you can show me around. I leave you with this :
You left this world and have gone to a better place on 22nd January 2003. You are a funny yet shy little boy, very brave and a true fighter. There will always be a place for you in my heart. Our house and family will never be the same without you. You will always be my hero.
Love always,
Your big brother,
Matthew
