Our Loss Of A Wonderful Friend

15th Nov 1994 – 22nd Jan 2003

Forever 8 years old

On January 22nd 2003 at 1:26am Timothy Luke Viergever passed away while sleeping, loosing his 18 month battle with leukaemia. He had his parents around him and at 1:30am his brothers and sisters joined them. We are thankful that he died peacefully.

Everyone loved Tim; he was a wonderful friend, a great brother and a fantastic son. There are two things a lot of people will never forget about Tim and that is his cheeky grin and his dry sense of humour. Tim loved to play jokes on his friends like when he invited his mates around for a sleep over and when they arrived at his house he hid in a corner and got his family to say that he wasn’t home. Tim made a lot of people laugh when he made up his own jokes on the spot which he was very good at.

I don’t know if you ever noticed his hands but he had lovely long fingers and great big blue eyes with long eyelashes. Unfortunately his eyelashes fell out with his hair due to chemotherapy.

Tim also had plans for when he got better. He wanted to learn how to play the keyboard, learn how to swim again and he really wanted to play tennis. Tim wrote down 3 wishes when he was in hospital and they were:

The Starlight Foundation also gave him a wish of anything he wanted. He could’ve gone on a holiday, met someone famous, wished for a motorbike or a computer or anything else he may of wanted but he didn’t take the offer. All he wanted was to get better and go to school with his mates and be with his family.

Tim taught me not to take every day for granted because you will never know what tomorrow brings. I miss him so much

Our family has experienced the work of Challenge – a cancer support network for families. Even though Tim is no longer with us their support still continues for us as it does for other families of cancer children. Thanks for supporting the St Simons School SRC Fundraiser with donations going to Challenge.
